I thought he was out of the office. But he surprised me and came back - and I was curled up in his desk chair, lighting up a cigarette. Yes, he's noticed recently that his office sometimes smelled like smoke. But he never asked me about it - although I'm sure he suspected. No, I'm not supposed to smoke in the office - what is this, the 80s? - but without my nicotine fix every 30 minutes, I'm just unable to function. I have noticed he always takes a long glance at me when he sees me smoking outside the building or in the parking lot. One summer afternoon I'm pretty sure I saw him across the courtyard taking a video of me smoking in my little sundress and espadrilles (he tried to pretend he was just looking at his phone).
